As if Traveling Were the Way of the Clouds features three recent videos that reflect on contemporary experiences of global migration. Each of the filmmakers: Basma Alsharif, Ismaïl Bahri, and Ayman Nahle, has a connection to the Arab world and uses sound to capture the unexpected reverberations of history that occur within the journeys they trace. As If Travelling Were the Way of the Clouds takes its title from the poem We Travel Like Anyone Else by the celebrated Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. These short videos, like Darwish’s poetry, stand witness to the states of suspension, dislocation, and desire that mark uncertain border crossings and returns.
