Creative Place Making: The Heart of a Healthy City

Reception: Wednesday, May 11, 4:30-5:30PM

The 2016 Barnett Symposium will focus on creative placemaking, a field of practice that intentionally leverages the power of the arts, culture and creativity to serve a community's interest while driving a broader agenda for change, growth and transformation in a way that also builds character and quality of place.

Six graduate students in the Department of Design have focused on identifying the heartbeat of the contemporary city. They asked questions about air quality, traffic congestion, pedestrian gathering, how to encourage bike travel and how to create service infrastructure. This exhibiiton will highlight the 50 great ideas these students have identified to start a conversation about what will help a healthy city survive in the future.
