Blueprints for a Past Future

Students studying the history and legacy of Black Mountain College's radical educational program will be recreating some of the original lessons, including constructing one of Buckminster Fuller's geodesic domes. Guests visiting Hopkins Hall during Blueprints’ run will see these works-in-progress and experience just a taste of Black Mountain College’s forward-thinking and groundbreaking approach to education.

The schedule is as follows (and is subject to change and will updated throughout the run of Blueprints):

November 1 & 3: installation of the geodesic dome
November 1–4: Auditions and rehearsal for a performance of John Cage’s Theater Piece No. 1, a multimedia performance
November 7 at 2 PM: Performance of Theater Piece No. 1
November 7: Art 4004/Art 5004 Criticism course: Collaboration and the Performative Line
November 8, 11:30 AM–12:30 PM: Screening of Josef Albers’s To Open Eyes
November 9: Matiere studies installed
November 10, 11 AM–12:30 PM: Albers color study workshop with Rob Thompson, lecturer in Department of Art
November 10, 2:20–3:30 PM: Discussion of Stan VanDerBeek screening which will take place on November 9, 7 PM at the Wexner
November 14 & 16: Art 4004/5004 works on view
November 16, 4:15 PM: Screening of Ruth Asawa: Of Forms and Growth
November 16, 11:10 AM–1:55 PM: Art 4004/5004 Nancy and Plato readings discussion
November 16 & 17: The Vexations Crawl begins. Twenty musicians over the course of 30 hours will tour the Oval and surrounding areas performing Erik Satie's composition Vexations, culminating with the closing reception for Blueprints. November 16 starting at the Wexner Center for the Arts 11 AM–6 PM, Weigel Hall 6 PM–7 PM, Hughes Auditorium 7PM - 11PM, Weigel Auditorium 11 PM - 7 AM (into the moring of November 17,) and continuing on November 17 at Weigel Hall Lobby 7 AM-9 AM, and Hopkins Hall 9 AM–5 PM
